AN EXPLANATION OF APPLICATION PER REQUEST OF MY PROF.

I am a woman. I am a woman in a society that misrepresents, objectifies, and attempts to silence me. In a culture dominated by patriarchal definitions of gender and sexuality, there is a desperate need for advocates to challenge the injustices of socialization driven by the biases of mainstream culture. As a hopeful applicant to —————————-, I aim to explore and further understand the ways in which we as a culture look at, define, represent, and misrepresent gender and sexuality. Through academic discovery and intellectual engagement I feel that pursing a certificate in Gender and Sexuality will equip me with the knowledge necessary to aptly prepare me to combat social injustices perpetuated by the patriarchy and allow for me to become an advocate for marginalized and underrepresented individuals on the civic and academic level.
